Benet Academy: A Proud Legacy in the Village of Lisle

At Benet, we take pride in our commitment to fostering excellence across four cornerstone programs: Academics, Faith & Service, Fine Arts, and Athletics. These programs serve as the pillars of our holistic educational approach, reflecting our belief that every student is called to achieve greatness with the guidance of our devoted faculty and staff. Here is a brief history of Benet Academy:

1887 – Founded as St. Procopius College by Benedictine monks with two enrolled students in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago’s near west side.

1900 – Moved to Lisle and began construction on a new building with classrooms, residential space, chapel, and rooms and offices for the monks. Became a boarding and day school for boys.

1924 – Sacred Heart Monastery opened an all-girls educational facility.

1956 – This high school moved from Benedictine Hall into its present location.

1967 – St. Procopius College and Sacred Heart Academy joined to form Benet Academy.

The Planned Improvements Are A Significant Upgrade From Current Conditions:
Benet Academy began operating as a high school in 1956, and the current stadium and athletic fields are essentially relics of that era and do not provide for a safe environment for physical education or allow for the hosting of many sporting events on campus.

Improving Benet’s campus with adequate athletic fields will significantly improve campus life for physical education, performing arts, and athletic competitions.

Benet has been a proud contributing member to the Village of Lisle for over a century. Through the years, like the neighborhoods near the school, the campus has grown to meet the evolving needs of the community and students. Here is an overview of the campus throughout the decades:

Benet’s existing sporting fields and facilities were built in 1961. The adjacent Oak Hill South subdivision began its development in 1978, 17 years after the athletic fields started operations.
